I first came across the concept of getting ‘clear’ in my early 20’s when reading The Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale and absolutely fell in love with this idea. In his five-step program, Vitale shared what he believes is the most important step in the whole book, “The Missing Secret”. This step is all about clearing out the negative and limiting beliefs that sit in our subconscious mind because it is these beliefs that often hold us back and sabotage our efforts to achieve our goals and desires.
When we aren’t clear, it means that our subconscious mind is not in alignment with our conscious mind. Our conscious mind may think, I want to lose 5kg, so I am going to follow this diet and exercise program and in X amount of time, I should achieve that goal. On a logical level, this makes sense and should work. Less calories in, more calories out. But what this plan does not take into consideration is the fact that we are also emotional beings who are quite complex, not just simple, physical beings.

Our subconscious mind may have certain beliefs such as “I am just big boned”, “I have never been able to lose weight”, “It is just genetics, everyone in my family is overweight” and perhaps even deeper beliefs such as “I am not good enough”, “I am not deserving of the body I want”, I am not loveable”, etc, the list could go on. These kinds of beliefs are not in alignment with the conscious mind that wants to lose weight, which results in self-sabotage as soon as the person is triggered by certain experiences in life.
For example, you could have a childhood trauma where you turned to food to make you feel better every time your parents yelled at you and berated you for not achieving high enough grades at school. Now, as an adult in the workplace, say your boss yells at you for not achieving the project deadline, your subconscious mind will bring up the memories of your parents berating you. Your boss might not have even been that harsh, but it will feel 10x worse because you are also reliving that unhealed childhood memory at the same time as your boss is yelling at you.
We are triggered in this moment, because we relive the childhood memory and feel the same emotions we did at the time it first occurred. Our conscious mind is no longer in control because our subconscious mind takes over and goes into ‘fight or flight’ mode, just like it would if we were being chased by a sabertoothed tiger. Now, as an adult, after following your diet and exercise plan perfectly for two weeks, you suddenly ruin the whole thing by binging on junk food to cope with being triggered because this is how you coped with this experience as a child.
The scary thing is you may not even be consciously aware that you have eaten all of the junk food until you have finished it! How many times have you eaten something and then looked at you plate thinking “where did my food go?” Or how many times have you driven somewhere and not realised where you were? Our subconscious mind over takes our conscious mind all the time, without us even realising. We just run on auto pilot!

Then we berate ourselves, telling ourselves we can’t stick to anything, we are stupid and have no self-control and feel like a failure because we ruined our diet plan. I know all of this, because I have experienced it myself, when I have not followed through with the goals or plans I made for myself. But in more recent years I have started to learn a lot more about clearing and healing to the point where I have some experiences that used to trigger me and bring up intense emotions, and now it doesn’t even phase me. I still have a lot of work to do on myself as we all do. It is a journey. But it is truly amazing when you have those moments where you can see some success from doing the work.
A great analogy to explain ‘getting clear’ is shared by Catherine Shainberg in her book The Kabbalah of Light. Shainberg explains that our conscious mind is like a small boat in a vast ocean. Sadly, our oceans are full of toxic floating garbage these days. All of our negative beliefs, repressed memories, unhealed traumas and harsh judgements are like the piles of rubbish sitting on the surface of the ocean. Below the surface is a diverse range of incredible marine life and in the deepest part of the ocean lies hidden the great serpent, Leviathan.

Shainberg goes on to explain that “raising the Leviathan is what happens when, having cleared the subconscious of its garbage the subconscious and the conscious minds meet in an explosion of light, a revelation. This co-creation is what I call the manifestations of the third mind, the superconscious.” I believe that this is where all of the magic happens!
I believe that tapping into the superconscious mind is why we are here, on earth, having this experience. It takes dedication and work to go through the healing process, to go through a ‘dark night of the soul’ or ‘heroes journey’ experience and raise Leviathan from the deep, but the rewards are amazing and worth , as we have learned from heroes and mystics throughout time.
It is truly empowering when you start to learn how to self-heal and clear the traumas, limiting beliefs and judgements that we hold in our mind and bodies. And there are so many amazing ways that you can get clear on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. In my next post, I will share all of the supplements, exercises and techniques that can be done to help clear your body on a physical level.
